Post 1: My News Sources

There are many ways people come in contact with information and stay up-to-date on the world around them. Be it newspapers, magazines, podcasts, television shows, or the internet; the world is essentially at our fingertips and is begging to be discovered. Here are my top 5 sources I cost to stay informed on the world around me.

1. The New York Times

The New York Times is an American newspaper company that has both a digital platform and a physical newspaper still in publication. The award-winning paper's first publication was on September 18, 1851, and has been called a "newspaper of record" and "one of the world's greatest newspapers" according to Britannica.

For a long time, I would receive the daily morning newspaper from the New York Times and when I got home from high school I would read it before I did my homework. The New York Times is my go-to and favorite site to get my news and information from; I have my phone to notify me to update me with The New York Time's top story of the hour on the hour. I tend to go to the New York Times when I want an update on breaking news, world, and national news, or politics. Occasionally I will log on to read an opinion piece or travel but primarily I use this website to stay up to date on current events.

2. The Washington Post

Like the New York Times, the Washington Post is an American newspaper company that has both a physical daily newspaper and a digital platform. According to Britannica the Washington Post is the most read newspaper in Washington D.C. and is considered one of the country's best newspapers. Currently owned by Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, the paper has been in circulation since it was founded in 1877.

Much like the New York Times I tend to read the Washington Post when I want to stay up to date on national or world news. I also will read the Washington Post when I want to learn more about what's happening in politics, especially during the election year. One thing I truly admire about the Washington Post is one of the journalist, Dave Jorgenson, has amassed a large following on the social media platform TikTok and creates a mix of comedic skits and small news bites that is reaching a much younger generation.

3. The New Yorker

The New Yorker is a weekly magazine published out of new york which also has a digital platform. Since starting its weekly publications in 1925, the New Yorker publishes 57 issues annually. The magazine doesn't only include reporting, but it also highlights writing, poetry, and social commentary. The magazine has won 3 awards: The Peabody Award (2012), GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage (2014), and the James Beard for Food Coverage in a General-Interest Publication (2020).

Being from New York the New Yorker has been a publication I had always known about. I didn't start becoming an avid reader of the magazine though until I was in high school and was gifted an annual subscription of it for my Birthday. The New Yorker has become one of my favorite news sources and I will log in and read just about anything they pulish. One of my favorite aspects of it is the cartoons that are publish dispersed throughout their magazine, and have even created an Instagram for (@newyotkercartoons). I most frequently visit the site nowadays to stay updated on happenings in my home state and to read the stellar fiction and poetry they publish.

4. Refinery29

Refinery29 is a digital media and entertainment platform that brands itself on being "A modern woman's destination for how to live a stylish, well-rounded life." It's own by the company Vice Media and was founded in 2005. With offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin the company has reported a global audience of over 249 million across all platforms.

I primarily go to Refinery29 to get article ideas for my job as Arts and Entertainment editor as High Point University's Campus Chronicle as well as read interesting articles in my free time. I normally will come on when I need to lighten my day with a less heavy piece. A really coo thing about the site is that it isn't just a news source but also an online store and streaming service. In particular, I am a fan of their entertainment articles.

5. Twitter

My newsfeed on the twitter desktop app on September 2, 2020

Twitter is a social networking site that allows users from across the globe "tweet" or post information, opinions, witty comments and so much more out to the public and their followers. Since it's founding on March 21, 2006 twitter people with twitter accounts can follow other users, like, retweet, and write up their own post.

I primarily use twitter to keep up to date on the world around me in a more informal way. I can log onto twitter's trending page and see what people with my shared interest or across the globe are currently tweeting about and get a variety of opinions and points of view for people of all ages. Whether it's keeping up to date on politics, celebrity drama, happenings in my community or witty commentary from my friends' twitter is a valuable news source because it is such a public platform with so many diverse users.

At the end of the day I am someone who prides herself on staying up to date on the world around her which means I tend to visit upwards of five or six news sources a day to stay in the know. I constantly find myself stumbling upon new sources and adding them to my tool belt of sites. Ultimately, while these five are my go-to and favorite sites, with the world at our fingertips there are so many other great ones to discover.

Innovation Of Diffusion - AirPods What exactly are AirPods? AirPods are Apple's wireless earbuds that have skyrocketed in popularity since their release in 2016. These earbuds became the most popular accessory sold by Apple two years after their release, and since the initial release of the AirPods Apple has come out with a  second-generation Airpods  and  Airpod Pros .  I believe the reason Airpods caught on quickly was because of how innovative and unique it was. Post 6: The Typewriter

The History Of The Type Writer "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed" - Ernest Hemmingway A Brief Timeline   The typewriter has evolved greatly since its humble beginnings, and while now in modern times is seen more as "antique" or "dated" used to be the peak of technology. The first known patent for the typer writer can be traced back to 1714 with Henry Mills' "Machine for Transcribing Letters". There is very little known about this machine, mostly because it never reached large-scale production, so because of these many attributes Christopher Latham Sholes' typewriter as the "first typewriter". Sholes developed his first typewriter in 1867, which was only able to type in capital letters, and a few years and tweaks later the first commercial typewriter would be manufactured by the Remington company and would have the capability to type in upper and lowercase. The addition of more keys h...
